The World Capital of Sport at United Nations

Monaco — awarded World Capital of Sport 2025 by ACES — has once again highlighted its strong international commitment to sport as a driver of peace, education and sustainable development.

During the United Nations General Assembly debate on “Sport for Development and Peace: Building a Peaceful and Better World through Sport and the Olympic Ideal”, Ms. Daphné Le Son, First Counsellor and Deputy Permanent Representative of Monaco to the UN, reaffirmed the Principality’s long-standing dedication to promoting sport as a global tool for societal progress

Earlier the same day, Monaco and Qatar co-hosted a meeting of the Group of Friends of Sport for Sustainable Development, attended by Ms. Kirsty Coventry, newly elected President of the International Olympic Committee, and Mr. Giovanni Malagò, President of the Organizing Committee of the Milano–Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games. The discussions emphasized the essential role of sport in gender equality, social cohesion and building a more sustainable future.

Addressing the UN General Assembly, Ms. Le Son highlighted Monaco’s designation as “World Capital of Sport 2025” and underlined the Principality’s priorities in several key areas:

  • sport in schools,
  • inclusion,
  • gender equality,
  • sustainability,
  • and support for the Olympic Truce.

Monaco’s Mission to the United Nations reiterated its determination to promote an ethical, safe and inclusive sporting environment, ensuring that sport remains firmly integrated into the UN agenda as a tool for sustainable development, education and social cohesion.

As ACES, we warmly congratulate Monaco for its leadership on the global stage and for reinforcing the values that define the title of World Capital of Sport.
