Sanitas, European Sport and Healthy Company 2026 (best practice)
Sanitas adopts a comprehensive approach to health, integrating daily habits, environmental factors and personal wellbeing within a firmly preventive framework. This commitment is also reflected internally through Viva, the company’s employee wellbeing programme, which structures health support across five key dimensions: physical, emotional, social, environmental and financial. The programme is designed to foster a balanced and sustainable approach to wellbeing, supporting both daily life and informed health-related decision-making.
This vision is further embodied in initiatives such as Healthy Cities, a programme that has spent the past decade championing healthier urban environments through active citizen engagement. In its tenth anniversary edition, 22,642 participants collectively achieved 8.1 billion steps, the equivalent of circling the Earth 137 times.
Sanitas also works closely with local administrations through the Espacios Healthy Cities awards, which allow cities to develop projects and encourage more active lifestyles. The initiative creates a direct link between human health and environmental health, aligned with an integrated approach that places prevention and wellbeing at the core of public and urban policy.
In parallel, Sanitas promotes sport as a key driver for social inclusion. Through Fundación Sanitas, it supports inclusive sport between people with and without disabilities through initiatives such as the Inclusive Games, where, in its second edition, 300 international athletes with and without disabilities competed side by side. The Foundation also contributes to expanding access to quality healthcare for vulnerable communities by collaborating with various organisations and associations, with Sanitas healthcare professionals actively contributing their expertise and time.
Ultimately, this model helps elevate the value of sport, particularly inclusive sport, while creating shared spaces that foster equity, participation and the development of a more accessible and sustainable culture of health.
