Peru launches the American Week of Sport
On September 22nd, the district of Chorrillos in Lima, Peru, had the honor of inaugurating the second edition of the American Week of Sport. The opening ceremony was attended by Peru’s Minister of Sports, the ACES America delegate, and the Mayor of Chorrillos, marking the beginning of a week filled with sporting excitement across the continent.
The event kicked off with a multi-sport day at Agua Dulce Beach, setting the stage for a week that is expected to surpass 2,000 events across the Americas, with participation from over 50 cities and 13 countries. From football matches to beach volleyball, and fitness classes to inclusive sports activities, the event showcased the diversity and vibrancy of sports within the region.
“This is a tremendous success in terms of participation, activating the Americas in a powerful and exemplary manner, setting a benchmark already in this second edition,” said Adriana Sánchez, the Institutional Director of ACES. Her words highlighted the growing impact of the American Week of Sport, which is rapidly becoming a continental reference point for promoting healthy lifestyles, physical activity, and community engagement through sport.
As the initiative continues to gain momentum, it emphasizes the role of sports in fostering unity, health, and social cohesion across diverse regions. The American Week of Sport aims to inspire cities and communities to prioritize physical activity and highlight the importance of sports for personal and collective development.
