Outstanding success in the 2024 European and American Weeks of Sport

ACES is celebrating another year of remarkable participation and development during the 2024 European Week of Sport (EWoS) and American Week of Sport (AWoS). With significant growth in both events, cities and countries across multiple continents came together to promote sport, physical activity, and healthy lifestyles.

During the European Week of Sport, a total of 452 events were registered, representing a 23.5% increase compared to 2023. More than 1.3 million participants from ACES member cities and regions were involved, a significant contribution to the overall success of the week. Italy led the participation effort with the highest number of events and activities across the country, continuing its long-standing commitment to promoting physical activity at all levels. Notable contributions came from countries like Portugal, Serbia, and Türkiye, with cities such as Naples, Parma, and Istanbul making a significant impact on local communities.

This year’s European Week of Sport witnessed a 40% increase in the number of participants and a 52% growth in registered events across Europe​.

Similarly, the American Week of Sport also achieved impressive results, with 1,963 events taking place across 13 countries, marking a 513.44% increase compared to 2023. Countries like Colombia, Brazil, and Mexico played a major role, with a significant rise in registered events. Valle del Cauca in Colombia stood out as the region with the highest level of participation, with cities like Bogotá, Cali, and Medellín actively involved. Argentina, the United States, and Costa Rica also contributed to the success of this year’s edition. The total number of participants across the American continent surpassed 4.8 million, demonstrating the immense reach of this initiative​.

These two initiatives showcase the power of sport as a unifying force, bringing together cities, regions, and entire countries under the banner of ACES. The success of these events is a testament to the ongoing commitment to promoting healthy, active lifestyles across Europe and the Americas.
