Meeting with WHO to explore synergies

ACES had the privilege of meeting with Dr. Fiona Bull, Head of the Physical Activity Unit and Global Health & Policy Leader at the World Health Organization (WHO), during a recent visit to Geneva, Switzerland.

Representing ACES Europe was Board Member André de Jeu, who led the conversation on the importance of aligning efforts to promote active lifestyles across all levels of society.

The meeting focused on the WHO’s Global Action Plan on Physical Activity 2030, which aims to ensure that all people have access to safe environments and diverse opportunities to be physically active in their daily lives. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance individual and community health while contributing to the social, cultural, and economic development of nations around the world.

Both parties acknowledged the critical role of cities and municipalities in achieving these goals and expressed a shared interest in working together to strengthen local and regional efforts.

During the conversation, potential avenues for collaboration between WHO and ACES were explored, highlighting the importance of joint actions in advancing health-focused urban policies.

This meeting marks a positive step toward aligning global health priorities with local-level implementation strategies through sport and physical activity.
