Liguria 2025 generates Over €110 Million in economic impact

Liguria 2025 – European Region of Sport has confirmed itself as a powerful driver of economic, social and sporting development, generating a total economic impact exceeding €110 million, according to an independent impact assessment presented by Regione Liguria.

The report highlights more than 550,000 total attendances across the region, including around 300,000 overnight stays, underlining the strong tourism boost linked to the programme. In 2025 alone, 382 sports events were delivered – 57 of them international – accounting for over 1,000 days of sport and involving approximately 370,000 participants, including athletes, spectators, staff and volunteers.

The study confirms that every euro invested produced a tangible and measurable return, with nearly €50 million in direct local expenditure and an additional €65 million in projected tourism impact over the next 18 months. Public investment in sport, estimated at around €20 million, acted as a catalyst for long-term benefits in infrastructure, participation and regional visibility.

Beyond the economic results, Liguria 2025 strengthened its sporting legacy, with significant investments in sports facilities, grassroots participation, and inclusive programmes reaching young people, families, seniors and people with disabilities across more than two-thirds of Ligurian municipalities.

These results demonstrate that the European Region of Sport title, awarded by ACES, is not merely symbolic, but a strategic tool capable of generating sustainable growth, international visibility and lasting value for territories that believe in sport as a driver of development.
