León, Mexico, to launch the 2026 American Week of Sport
Following more than 8 million participations in 2025, the American Week of Sport is preparing for a new edition that will connect cities and territories across the continent through sport.
The Americas are getting ready for the 2026 American Week of Sport (AWS), which will take place from 23 to 30 September, bringing together sporting activities, cities and communities across the continent.
Ahead of the continental week, León, Guanajuato, Mexico, will host the official launch from 17 to 20 September, welcoming representatives, organisations and partners from the world of sport to mark the beginning of this major movement promoting physical activity throughout the Americas.
The 2026 edition builds on the remarkable success achieved last year. In 2025, the American Week of Sport recorded 8,170,825 participations across 4,546 sporting events, involving 91 cities in 14 countries. These figures demonstrate the continued growth of an initiative committed to promoting physical activity, health, inclusion and social development through sport.
A stronger and more connected network in 2026
For this new edition, ACES América is strengthening the digital dimension of the initiative through ACES Activa, the official application designed to register and showcase activities taking place across participating territories.
The initiative will also be supported by the SAD 2026 Digital Network, connecting communication teams from cities and territories across the Americas to increase the visibility and reach of their activities and events under #SAD2026, #ActivateAmerica and #BeActive.
Another major step forward for the 2026 edition is the incorporation of AS México, part of PRISA Media, as the official Media Partner of the American Week of Sport. With its presence and editions in Mexico, the United States — in both Spanish and English —, Colombia and Chile, together with its global reach and strategic partnership with Claro Sports, AS will contribute to expanding the visibility of the initiative and its stories across the American continent.
Mexico continues to strengthen its presence within the network. In addition to León hosting the official launch of the 2026 American Week of Sport, Zapopan, Jalisco, has been designated American Capital of Sport 2027, reinforcing the country’s commitment to sport as a driver of healthier, more active and inclusive communities.
From 17 to 20 September, León will welcome the Americas and set the stage for a celebration that will then spread across the continent from 23 to 30 September, involving cities, institutions, organisations and millions of participants.
