Guayaquil named American Capital of Sport 2026
ACES is proud to announce that Guayaquil, Ecuador, has been officially designated as the American Capital of Sport 2026. The decision follows a comprehensive evaluation of the city’s commitment to sports development, social inclusion through physical activity, and the promotion of healthy lifestyles.
This recognition places Guayaquil among the leading cities in the Americas when it comes to sports policy, infrastructure investment, and civic participation. With a strong record of organizing international sporting events, promoting grassroots initiatives, and fostering public-private partnerships, Guayaquil sets a positive example for the entire continent.
The announcement was made following an official visit by the ACES evaluation committee, which praised the city’s strategic vision and community engagement in sport. Local authorities expressed their enthusiasm for this honor and highlighted the upcoming opportunities it brings for youth, education, tourism, and urban development.
ACES President, Gian Francesco Lupattelli, stated:
“Guayaquil has shown a remarkable dedication to the values we promote: sport as a tool for health, education, and inclusion. We are thrilled to work alongside the city throughout 2026 to celebrate this title with impactful initiatives and events.”
As American Capital of Sport 2026, Guayaquil will host a series of regional and international activities aimed at reinforcing its role as a leader in sport-based urban development.
