Evaluation Commission visits Buenos Aires, candidate for WCS 2027

Buenos Aires welcomed the Evaluation Commission for the World Capital of Sport 2027 award, leaving a remarkable impression on the international jury. The city, competing against Porto-Gaia (Portugal), showcased its dynamic sports development, the strong involvement of partners and stakeholders, and a unique energy that reflects the deep-rooted passion for sport found in all Argentinians—especially among the people of Buenos Aires.

One of the highlights of the visit was the thriving network of neighborhood sports programs, which mobilize thousands of residents across the city and exemplify community-driven physical activity. Inclusive sport is also a key pillar of Buenos Aires’ strategy, promoted with great professionalism and dedication to ensure equal access and opportunities for all.

In a country where football is nothing short of a religion—and proudly the home of the current world champions—Buenos Aires stands out with 16 football fields spread throughout the city, offering spaces for both grassroots and competitive play.

Mayor Jorge Macri delivered an emotional and passionate speech in defense of the candidacy, emphasizing sport as a transformative tool for social cohesion, health, and civic pride.

The final decision will be announced in the coming weeks, when it will be revealed whether Buenos Aires or Porto-Gaia will receive the prestigious title of World Capital of Sport 2027.
