Chorrillos named American City of Sport 2025

Peru has recently earned a place on the prestigious list of ACES with Chorrillos being nominated as the American City of Sport for the year 2025. This marks a significant milestone for Peru as Chorrillos becomes an exemplar in sports investment within the continent. The district has been recognized for its substantial contributions to sports development and for implementing innovative social inclusion programs that stand out in Latin America.

Hugo Alonso, the Secretary-General of ACES, who was part of the Evaluation Commission that visited the Peruvian district earlier this year, commented on the decision. “Awarding Chorrillos was a result of their concerted efforts to rank among the top sports cities in America. They presented an excellent candidacy and are set to become a benchmark in the coming years,” he said.

Chorrillos’ strategy focuses on enhancing sports facilities and expanding access to sports activities for all community members, regardless of their socio-economic status. The initiatives include the development of new sports complexes, the renovation of existing facilities, and the introduction of community programs aimed at engaging various groups, including youth and the elderly, in sporting activities. This approach not only promotes physical health and wellness but also fosters community spirit and social cohesion through sports.

The ACES recognition is expected to bring increased attention and investment to Chorrillos, aiding in its mission to transform and uplift the community through sports. This achievement showcases the potential for other cities to integrate sports as a pivotal element of urban development and social inclusion.
