Buenos Aires officially declared World Capital of Sport 2027

ACES has officially designated Buenos Aires as the World Capital of Sport for 2027. The announcement was made on May 12, 2025, at the Olympic Park in Villa Soldati, with Mayor Jorge Macri highlighting the city’s commitment to sports and community engagement.

Buenos Aires was selected based on its extensive sports infrastructure and vibrant community involvement. The city boasts over 350 neighborhood clubs, federations, and local leagues, reflecting a deep-rooted passion for sports among its residents.

“Being chosen as the World Capital of Sport is a tremendous honor that places us in a global leadership position alongside the world’s great capitals,” said Mayor Macri. “We were selected by a respected jury that acknowledged our sporting infrastructure and the variety of activities promoted within our community.”

This recognition opens doors for Buenos Aires to attract major international sporting events, such as world championships in cycling, skating, handball, swimming, and potentially iconic competitions like Formula 1 and MotoGP.

The title of World Capital of Sport not only brings international recognition but also contributes to the city’s legacy by promoting sports as a tool for social inclusion, health, and civic pride.
