ACES highlights the role of cities and regions in advancing Para Sport inclusion at UNESCO Conference

On August 27-28, 2024, the UNESCO International Conference on Para Sport Inclusion took place in Paris, just ahead of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. Organized by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and UNESCO, the conference brought together athletes, government officials, and leaders from various sectors to promote disability inclusion through the power of Para sport.

ACES board member André de Jeu, representing the global network of cities and regions of sport, emphasized the critical role of local governments in making sports facilities accessible and inclusive. He highlighted how cities and municipalities are at the forefront of creating environments that enable people of all abilities to engage in sport and physical activity.

The conference, under the theme “Harnessing the Transformational Impact of Para Sport,” called for innovative approaches to managing sports infrastructure and launched the Paris 2024 Call to Action, urging stakeholders to prioritize disability inclusion across all sectors of society.

ACES remains committed to promoting inclusive sport through the collaborative efforts of local and regional governments.
