ACES and UNESCO strengthen collaboration on sport and development
On August 30, 2024, ACES Europe held a productive meeting in Paris with representatives from UNESCO, marking a significant step towards advancing sport as a driver of social and economic development. The meeting was attended by Philipp Müller, Executive Officer of Sport at UNESCO, Gissele Burbano, Head of Sport for UNESCO in the Americas, Gian Francesco Lupattelli, President of ACES Europe, and Hugo Alonso, Secretary General of ACES Europe.
The discussions centered around the role of sport as a key element in achieving the 2030 Agenda, with a particular focus on innovation and impact investment. Key topics included the integration of development banks, standard-setting for training and capacity-building, and the development of indicators for measuring impact. These efforts aim to strengthen cooperation models between European, Latin American, and African cities, with UNESCO’s support.
