A postage stamp dedicated to the Sofia – European Capital of Sport initiative was validated today at a special ceremony at the History Museum of Sofia. The stamp depicts the Statue of Sofia – one of the brightest symbols of the city and a stylized group of running athletes. The colors are predominantly blue, in different shades, similar to those used in the campaign brand.
First seal and signature were given by the mayor of the city of Sofia Mrs. Yordanka Fandakova, the Deputy Minister of Transport, Information Technologies and Communications Mr. Dimitar Genovski and the Chairperson of the Sofia Municipal Council and Sofia 2018 Mr. Elena Gerdjikov. The ceremony was attended by Olympic champions and medalists Tanya Bogomilova, Vania Geshev ,Yordanka Blagoeva, Evgenia Radanova and other sports legends, Deputy Mayor Dr. Todor Chobanov and Deputy Mayor Dontcho Barbalov, councilors, chief executive of Bulgarian Posts Dejan Daneshki, representatives of the Ministry of youth and sports, the sports and Sofia Directorate of Sofia Municipality, prof. Yancheva – Deputy Rector of National Sports Academy -Mariana Stoilov , many philatelists, journalists and guests.
Sofia, the European capital of sport, is gaining more and more popularity and today’s ceremony is part of the overall initiative. It is a tradition for the Ministry of Transport, Information Technology and Communications to issue a special Stamp for significant sporting events, “Dimitar Genovski said at the ceremony.
“There are many interesting events, competitions and festivals that will be organized throughout the year, during which Sofia is the European sports capital. We anticipate over 100 activities and they are all consistent with our desire that the Sofia residents to have more options and information for sports activities and healthy lifestyle, “said Yordanka Fandakova.
Deputy Minister Genovski elaborate validation issue, stressing his message: to promote Sport for all – discipline, vitality, team spirit, calculated risk, empathy, fair play … “The sports theme is one of the – preferred in today’s branding, “said Deputy Minister.
The publication includes a postage stamp with a vignette and a special postage stamp.
The painter is the graphic designer Valentin Stinkov, it is 50/25 mm in size, with a nominal value of BGN 1.50, offset printed with a ridge perforation on white paper with a circulation of 11 000 pieces. Special postage stamps will be made available for use at 1000 Sofia Post Office for 3 working days as of the date of putting the brand in use.
Dozens of philatelists waited in queues to buy the precious edition first and get autographs from those present on the unique envelope.
