Ostend, European City Sport’17

The Belgian city of Ostend has recently been declared European City of Sport 2017. With this award it becomes the second Belgian municipality which receives this award after it achieved in 2012 by Charleroi. In this sense and in the same country, it should also be remembered that in 2013 Antwerp was European Capital of Sport.
The Evaluation Committee was very pleased with the visit to Ostend which highlights the sports management of the city with water sports, football and basketball as reference without forgetting cycling since the weekend in which the visit took place was also held in Ostend the Para-cycling World Championships.
The city has presented a great candidature with high promotion involving all sports clubs and associations as well as a flashmod in the city center that attracted hundreds of people. “We are pleased to be able to include Ostend in our network of cities awarded because of its quality that in the field of sport,” said Gian F. Lupattelli, president and founder of ACES Europe.
